1986 Peugeot 305 SRD Diesel saloon
– A proper well used old banger, and nice to see one. These are actually really quite rare now- this is one of just 10 305 SRDs on the roads in the UK as of 2013.

Rusty, battered but still here! Unfortunately the number plate is a replacement, and I don’t think the wheels are original, but good to see a rare car. This was spotted in a pub car park where we were having lunch, next to a Range Rover and a new BMW.

This 1986 Peugeot 305 SRD has a 1.8 litre diesel engine. Good to see it’s recently been relicensed for a whole extra year!

The vehicle details for D277 EPR are:

Date of Liability 01 09 2014
Date of First Registration 21 08 1986
Year of Manufacture 1986
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1769cc
CO₂ Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type HEAVY OIL
Export Marker N
Vehicle Status Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour WHITE
Vehicle Type Approval Not Available

Is the 1,769cc engine a replacement in this car, as that size doesn’t seem to be standard… (by charlie cars on 2013-09-29 14:18:53 )

  1. People stopped buying these in the UK when the 309 came out, which was also a small family car. It’s bizarre they were building two small family cars, competing against each other, but Peugeot ended the Talbot brand which was what the 309 was originally intended to be and why it was given the unusual number sequence.

Interestingly, Peugeot have just announced that they’ll no longer continue into the 09 number sequence, and will just replace all models from now on with the 08 sequence. Something we’re about to see with the 308’s replacement very soon.

  2. We had one of these as a family car about 20 years ago. On first hearing it my good lady said ‘It sounds like a taxi’ Kids christened it Tootles after a taxi car character in one of their books. Very reliable car.

  3. Many arent around at all really pal. Like u say there’s only 10 of these 305’s left so its unlikely i’ll see 1 where i am! Think there used to be a van/pickup version of 1 of these if im right in thinking?

  4. [http://www.flickr.com/photos/92622665@N08] It was a good family car, but we had a petrol one with a small engine… Not as good and durable as the diesel one…

  5. Hiya pal, u havent come across and picutured any uk registered Lancia Delta’s (made in lhd only) or late registered VW Scorodos have u??

  6. This example has now been put on SORN- I hope it’s not the end of the road for it, especially as the tax didn’t run out until September.

  7. [http://www.flickr.com/photos/60338281@N06] Oh right, it’s just the SRD models are described as having a 1,905cc engine on the 305. You know more than me though!

  8. [http://www.flickr.com/photos/62607125@N08] Thanks! The cars aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I just take pics of anything worth photo’ing for the record, as many won’t be around for much longer sadly.

  9. According to my Parkers guide book the SRD had a 1.8 diesel between 01 Feb 1985 – 01 Sep 1986, It was available in 1.9 from 01 Feb 1985 – 01 Sept 1988.

  10. Lol sorry your bob on with the VW name. Your pics are great Chatlie as ive seen these/used to see these cars in use everyday but never thought of picturing them , glad someone has. Just thought i’d ask about the VW and Lancia. There’s a very powerfull expensive 2.9 litre turbo petrol engined Corrado but have bever actually seen a uk 1.

  11. Sorry, I don’t know if I have. For the Scorodo, I don’t know of a car with that name, but perhaps you mean VW Corrado? I’ve seen a couple a few years ago, but haven’t got a photograph unfortunately

  12. What a great spot! As this one’s got the GTX alloys and a sunroof it’s a safe bet it had the "executive" option pack fitted which also included tinted glass, central locking and electric front windows! Heady stuff indeed.Had many 305’s years ago, still one of the most comfortable cars, along with the Xantia
