– Who started all this again??!! Lol!

Not one for ‘Selfies’, but I thought I better get ‘SEB’ in the picture too! Not feeling the best either, as I’ve just had my 4 wisdom teeth taken out on Tuesday!

So, he’s my mug shot and most of you will know me as James, but I do get called Jim as well.

I’m not a ‘hard core’ Flickr member as such, well not like some of you guys, but every now and then I pop up with some contributions.

I’m 36 years old and I was born in Hawera, Taranaki, North Island, New Zealand and moved to Australia with my family when I was 2 years old and have lived here ever since.

Moved around a bit when I was young, due to my Dads work, I’ve lived in Tasmania for a few years, before moving to New South Wales, where I did most of my High Schooling, before settling in South Australia.

I work in the Auto industry for a Mazda dealership, where I’m the Stock Controller and Dealer Delivery Co-ordinator. Before that and with the same company, I started in the industry as a detailer, then moving to do accessories, then doing sales – which I hated, before scoring the stock control job at our Ford Dealership. In the past 8 months, I’ve found myself working at our Mazda dealership, as it’s very busy and so I share my role with another person. I’ve worked for the same company for the past 5 years. Our dealership has 2 Ford dealerships, 2 Hyundai dealerships and just the 1 Mazda dealership. We’ve also recently started building a Jeep dealership, which should be operational early next year.

We also had a Chinese brand, Foton, but that fell into a hole, due to the importer for Foton vehicles, not offering it’s dealers any support at all, whether it was advertising or service, so after 2 years, we pulled the plug.

I’ve had a love affair with cars from ever since I can remember! Before I could actually talk, I would spit out all the makes of cars that would pass us in the street or in the car and I used to drive my parents insane with the word ‘car’ all day, as I would point to them.

Even now my friends say, how do you know what car that is, just by looking at the wheel trims, grill or the back lights?? I don’t know I say, it’s just a gift! Haha! And at work, as soon as something European comes in, the guys come into me and say, this one is for you, as most of them have no idea what trim level a car is or the engine size and so on and then I tell them how much I think it’s worth, so they can appraise it.

Have always loved the Euro stuff, whether it’s Renault, Volkswagen, Fiat, Peugeot, Audi, Skoda, or what ever and I’m pretty sure I got that from my parents. I remember one of the first family cars being an old Audi 80 Fox sedan, which we all loved and served us for many years.

I’ve owned 4 Volkswagens, 3 Renaults, a SEAT, a SMART and also now a Peugeot. Oh and a Hyundai!

I remember growing up, my brothers and I would watch all the Herbie movies back to back, until the VHS tapes broke and then Mum would have to buy us another one and we also loved KIT in Knight Rider, The Dukes of Hazard, Chips and there was another VW Beetle movie that I can’t think of the name right now, but I think it was German and the car was an Orange Beetle, who’s name may be ‘Doo Doo’?? Hmmm, I think I’m really showing my age right now!!

My partner doesn’t share the same enthousiasme as me with cars, which drives him nuts some times, as I’ll be more interested in the car that’s just driven past us, as to what he was saying!! Haha! Plus our spare room is slowly being over run with 1.43 scale diecast cars and matchbox and Tomica cars! I really need to find a really nice display cabinet to put them in!

Haha! YES, that’s it – Dudu!! And he’s yellow! I loved that movie when I was a kid!

  2. []
    Thanks Neil!

My Dad is part Maori, while my grandfathers on both sides, are also part Maori, so that’s where I get it from. They’ve all married whites on both sides of the family in their days, so we’re a real mix!! Lol!

  3. [] I don’t know of any gay Citroen owners on here. Who is or are they on other forums?

  4. []
Thanks Darrell! I’m the same with Canada, it’s on my bucket list, as it’s one country that I really would love to visit and I too see it as a ‘sister’ country to Australia and New Zealand, in the same way as what you’ve described. I love Canadians! I think they have the same kind of laid back attitude and values as to most Aussies and Kiwi’s do and they just seem to click whenever they get together.

  5. That’s funny, because when I had my SEAT, I knew three other guys that also owned SEAT’s and were also gay! And SEAT’s weren’t a big seller in Australia either, so every time I saw another guy driving a SEAT, the thought did cross my mind. Haha!

  6. [] :–)

They also voted "European Gay Car Brand of the Year" in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Well, Citroën has won in 2010 and 2012, in 2012 with 100 points more than the second! XD

That’s funny ‘greedy’. Lol! I would never have thought of it that way!

Thanks for your well wishes Ben! We’ve been together for while now, 5 years, but I’m sure we’ll be walking side by side, with walking frames, for many many years yet!

Likewise with you mate, I hope you find someone that you’ll get to share your life with. Remember this, every saucepan has a lid, you just have to find that lid!

  8. [] Oh my fault, sorry… But I really don’t understand what’s surprising them? :–/

  9. So many of us on here are gay or bisexual, I think it’s fantastic. We, here have the GCCG Gay classic car group of the UK and I believe it’s quite big at nearly 1,000 members. Most of them live in the south-east region and have quite a mixture of tastes in random car,not your ordinary MG or Triumph fans. I am gay myself, so I will take one of my cars to the meets one day over at the pub.

  10. I’ve just had a another look at my picture and it almost looks like my car has crept up behind me and ‘photobombed’ my picture!! Lol!

  11. Thanks for the great introduction….And knowing you can be on the "team" is really cool too as it is 2014 and a total non issue here in (as I call it) The "Dominion" the former imperial name of what is now just Canada plain and simple……..LOL PS Nice shot your partner is a lucky guy! PS I have traveled a lot around the globe have yet to make it down under to either AUS or NZ but have always had a fascination with both countries as they in my eyes are the sister countries to Canada here in the Commonwealth former colonies, spacious, new, prosperous and full of people diverse from all over the globe just like here.

Great Plate BTW. I found a vintage Queensland plate here this year "tweaked" it to match my car since the green and white colours were the same as Saskatchewan the province next door (not cool LOL) and it gets eye balled all the time…….

Haha! Well, we come in all shapes and sizes and most of the time we’re a friendly bunch, but yeah, thanks Ben! Lol!

I do get that a lot because I don’t fit the ‘stereotype’ of what people think a gay person should be, so I’m happy to say I’m a minority in a minority!

  13. []
Thank for that! I’ll have to look around for it, though now that we’re heading into Summer in my part of the world, there won’t be too many rainy days to watch them.

  14. []
    Thanks Dave!

Unfortunately, there are no pictures of the Audi anywhere! I’ve asked my mum if she had some in any photo albums, but she couldn’t find any. I remember it was white, with a red interior and a sunroof!

Yep, I’ve still got the Laguna! I’ve had it now for 15 months and it hasn’t missed a beat. Have a done a few road trips, 8 hours or longer in it and the fuel economy is amazing! I’ve done 15,000km since taking delivery of it.

Every now and then I get a bit of attention in it, always from older gentlemen. I seem to catch them looking over the car when it’s sitting in a car park and I’m walking towards it. I go to unlock it and it startles them a bit and then I get this puzzled look from them with a comment … ‘Is this yours?’. They always seem very surprised that someone of my ‘vintage’ would be driving around in something like this! I get a good laugh out of it!

So, are you gay too Nick? I hope that was ok for me to ask? If not, completely ignore me! Lol!

  16. [] James it all comes down to being Commonwealth countries with Her majesty on the back of the coins……LOL

  17. [] Actually I’d never heard of it before, I’m too young! :–) Well, now you know which DVDs to buy for rainy days during your holidays! :–)

  18. [] Nope, I’m not! Not bisexual, not transsexual, not asexual :–) Ignored! XD
    Here I said:

"Am I the only exception? :,–(
Just kidding with the sad smiley! ;–)"

  19. [] [] Not bad, not everyone talks about that on the internet! :–)

  20. Hi James – good to put another face to a name! I wondered if you still had the Laguna, is it going well?

I like the sound of the Audi 80 Fox your parents had, don’t suppose you have any pics?!

  21. [] I’ve also noticed that! First I thought that it was only Citroën drivers (I know some (or should I say lots of?) gay Citroën owners), but now I think that lots of car addicts are! Am I the only exception? :,–(
Just kidding with the sad smiley! ;–)

  22. G’day James; great to see you!
I imagined you’d be younger; not that you look your age…..
I didn’t picture you with a "Real" Kiwi heritage either, which is pretty stupid,as I knew plenty of full and part Maoris in Australia.

  23. [] Well now I know that it is not only true for Citroën collectors! ^^ But it’s really strange that there are that many among the Flickr car-spotters. Or maybe people are just not afraid of talking about that here? I don’t know… :–/

  24. [] I’m bisexual (greedy apparently!) and not as ashamed as I once was to admit it, I wouldn’t say gay people really have a stereotype any more, but for some reason you surprised me! I wish you and your partner all the best for the years ahead!

  25. [] I haven’t broadcast it until now, however it’s come up in conversation before with others via the private message service. Quite a few of us here on flickr are LGBT.

  26. []
That’s amazing Alex! I wish we had something like that here! But car shows in general are somewhat thin on the ground as it is for some reason, so to have our own group like that would be a huge ask! I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a big turn out however! I’m a member of the ‘We Love 1980’s Cars’ on Facebook, which is a UK based group and that’s pretty much all I see on my news feed, is pictures from members over there and the car shows that they go on, it’s huge!

I think you have a great collection of cars and a nice verity. Unfortunately, I don’t have the storage room to keep more than 2 cars undercover in the garage and I don’t really like to have cars parked outside or on the street, makes the place look untidy! Lol!

The reason why I’ve never ‘come out’ on flickr is because I didn’t feel the need to and I didn’t think it was all that big of a deal really, as I’m not one to shove things in peoples faces. But it’s great to know that there is more of us out there who have the same interest’s. I think it’s great!

  27. [] Not on here, I should have been more precise. No I mean, I know them in real life. I’m also on a (german) forum, but I don’t no anyone there. :–)
